SUMMARY:Argentina's Grain Industry - Implications for Australia
DESCRIPTION:The Australian Exports Grain Innovation Centre will present a an economic study about Argentina’s Grain Industry and the implications for Australia. \nDavid Hughes from Argentrigo and Emiliano Huergo from Clarin Rural are traveling from Argentina to participate for the discussion and help us finding synergies between Australia and Argentina. \nThe report\, which forms part of AEGIC’s Competitor series\, provides a comprehensive overview of Argentina’s changing grain production\, logistics and export prowess\, with a focus on the implications for the Australian wheat industry. This report complements our previous reports on Canada\, Ukraine and Russia and aims to provide description and analysis that informs and guides a strategic response by the Australian grains industry.\nAfter a marked change in government and economic policy\, Argentina’s grains industry has rapidly changed and Argentinian grain exports have increased. Planned additional changes\nin government policy will further strengthen Argentinian grain exports and provide enduring comparative advantage to Argentina’s grains industry. The Australian Export Grains\nInnovation Centre (AEGIC) examines these developments and reports on their implications\, particularly for Australia’s wheat industry.\n \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKey presenters\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProfessor Ross Kingwell\, AEGIC’s chief economist\, will present the key findings of AEGIC’s latest report Argentina’s grains industry: implications for Australia. He will explain the impact of rising Argentinian wheat exports on international markets\, the likely impact on the Australian industry and the options it has to respond.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDavid Hughes\, Argentinian farmer and president of ArgenTrigo\, (Argentina’s peak wheat industry association) will outline the nature of grain farming in Argentina and what has been driving the impressive growth in Argentine’s production and export of wheat over the past five years. David will also describe how farmers groups support profitable farming systems in Argentina through its impressive CREA (Regional Consortiums of Agricultural Experimentation) network and how this may have relevance for Australian farmers.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJohn Henchy\, Executive Officer for the Farm Machinery & Industry Association of WA (FMIA)\, will describe the opportunities the Argentine agricultural sector presents for Australian farmers\, particularly in relation to machinery produced in Argentina and their suitability for use by Australian farmers.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTweet

SUMMARY:Latin America Down Under 2018
DESCRIPTION:About the Conference\nStrong growth trends and growing economic clout have seen Latin America become the rising star of the international economy in the last decade and the resources sector has played a key role in that emergence. Australian industry participants have played their part in that growth and the Australian government is now using the linkages built in resources to enhance its relations with the nations and economies of Latin America. \nThe Latin America Down Under (LADU) Conference was created to further these relations and highlight the vast\, untapped potential for Australian miners and explorers in a region. \nFollowing the format of its highly successful African counterpart\, Latin America Downunder provides a rare opportunity for Australian government\, Latin American mining ministers\, junior exploration and resource companies\, suppliers\, service providers\, educational bodies\, media and investors to network and share their stories and experiences. LADU has grown into the premier forum for Australian-Latin American relations\, showcasing the very best of this growing relationship. \n \nThe next edition will be held on 16-17 May 2018 in Perth\nPlease contact Mel Fogarty on +61 8 9321 0355 or melita@paydirt.com.au for information or to confirm your participation. \n  \nLADU2017 pictures\n \n \n\nTweet

SUMMARY:Cicare and Zada Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Cicare became a member in ArCham and we introduced them Zada Aviation. We had in November 2016 and as a result Zada is now the distributor of Cicare in Australia. Roberto from Zada recently visited the facilities. \n  \nRoberto: “It was a pleasure to spend time at the Cicare’ factory in Saladillo and meet Augusto “Pirincho” Cicare’\, the founder. The quality of workmanship is among the best in the helicopter experimental aviation market. We were lucky to be there to celebrate Augusto’s 80th birthday and the wonderful family feeling which goes through the factory clearly shows in the final products.  Zada Aviation and Cicare’ will work together to establish a support network in Australia\, stocking up spare parts and acting as a liaison with the factory. Future plans will see Zada Aviation and Cicare’ acting directly with CASA to introduce the revolutionary helicopter trainer and commence the investigations to certify the other helicopter with Recreational Aviation Australia”. \n   \n \n\nTweet

Mauricio Macri took office in December 2015 Argentina is working to provide a stable and adequate macroeconomic and regulatory framework to become an attractive destination for Foreign Direct Investment. The main measures were: removal of capital/repatriation restrictions\, free floating currency\, closed hold out debt default and successfully regained access to global capital markets\, inflation targeting\, public deficit control and removal of export taxes. The right investment climate along with the country´s comparative advantages and growth prospects provide unique investment opportunities. A private sector with low levels of debt provides a solid platform to finance investment and consumption to return the economy to a sustainable growth path. Argentine Comparative Advantages \n  \nKEY FIGURES\n\n3rd largest economy in the region with a GDP of $500Bn (after Brazil and Mexico)\n2nd highest GDP per capita in the region in PPP terms (U$22\,600\, after Chile)\n4th country in the region in population size (43m)\,\n8th largest country in the world with 53% of arable land\n8 prolific Oil & Gas basins. Optimal conditions for renewable energy (wind\, solar)\nUntapped metals and minerals reserves (copper\, gold\, silver\, lithium\, potassium)\nWorld-class labor force\, renowned for its technical skills\, creativity and versatility\nRanked #1 in Latin America in Human Development Index\, #1 in Education Index\n2nd highest proportion of middle class population\, lowest Gini coefficient in the region\nHigh connectivity levels\, with 75% broadband and 141% mobile penetration\nPent up consumption and investment (logistics\, infrastructure\, utilities\, energy).\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT ARGENTINA\nAt 43 million\, Argentina’s population is relatively young (median age is around 30 years) and grows at approximately 0.9% per year. Until 2030 the country is expected to enjoy a demographic dividend\, with the share of the working-age population larger than the non-working-age share of the population. \nThroughout its history\, the country has welcomed immigration. Between 1850 and 1950\, Argentina attracted mainly Italian and Spanish immigrants. Over the last decades\, immigrants have arrived mainly from neighbouring countries and Asian nations. The country is well known for its tolerance towards different cultures and respect for diversity. \nThe official language is Spanish but Argentina has the highest English language proficiency in Latin America. English is mandatory at state schools in the City of Buenos Aires and in the Province of Buenos Aires. \nArgentine workers are among the most highly educated in Latin America. The literacy rate is 98% and 16% of the population has higher education levels. \nDue to its educated population of young people\, its prestigious universities and both a public and private commitment to innovation\, Argentine cities have become an attractive destination for mobile development services\, software\, and gaming that have produced three successful unicorns: Mercado Libre\, Despegar\, and Globant. \nArgentina is one of the main tourism destinations in Latin America\, with almost 6 million tourists per year. The capital city of Buenos Aires is a top choice for expats due to its vibrant culture and renowned nightlife. \nECONOMY\nArgentina is one of the wealthiest countries in Latin America possessing abundant human and natural resources. \nThe well-known ‘Humid Pampas’ with its high agriculture productivity (as a result of mild climate\, abundant rainfall\, rich soils\, low fertilizer needs) has led Argentina to become a top food producer with large-scale agricultural and livestock industries. It is among the world’s leading beef and soybean exporters and is the top producer of sunflower seeds\, lemons and soybean oil. \nArgentina also has significant mining reserves: Silver/copper (7th largest in the world)\, lithium (4th)\, gold (9th) and potassium. In addition to its conventional oil and gas reserves\, Argentina is ranked 4th worldwide in shale oil and 2nd in shale gas reserves. \nWhile the country has a strong history of heavy industries – such as the automotive industry -\, fast-growing sectors include renewable energies (due to optimal wind and solar conditions)\, biotechnology\, software development and creative industries. Furthermore\, Argentina has recently launched an ambitious infrastructure program (including the construction of highways\, roads\, ports\, and cargo trains) with a special focus on the country’s Northwest to improve the country’s competitiveness. \nFollowing the December 2015 election of President Mauricio Macri\, a bold economic program has been launched to strengthen the economy and provide the right investment climate. Recent measures include lifting capital controls\, moving to a floating currency\, removing export taxes and reducing subsidies to utilities tariffs. The government is also committed to eliminating the fiscal deficit and cutting inflation to a low single-digit figure over the next four years. \nThe end of the dispute with holdout creditors and the successful $16.5 billion bond issue (4 times oversubscribed) was a significant milestone. These measures\, coupled with the fact that Argentina has an open investment regime\, have improved investors’ perceptions and encouraged investment. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTweet
